This new bookRoom press publication is based on a close reading of a large sample of British carte-de-visite studio portraits (1854-1868), collected by Caroline Molloy (2016-20) as part of her PhD research, that looked at the Photography Studio as a conceptual framework through which socio-cultural aspirations are experimented with and performed.
A selection of the original prints and the publication are also presented in the Family Ties Network exhibition, Family and Other Ties at the Foyer Gallery at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, in November 2022.
Dr Caroline Molloy is an artist, academic and writer. She is the programme director of Fine Art, Digital Arts and Photography at University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. She holds a PhD in Arts and Humanities, from Birkbeck in the Centre for Photographic History and Theory.
This is the twelfth publication that comes out of bookRoom.
